6-FAM

6-FAM

6-Carboxyfluorescein (6-FAM), a fluorescein derivative, shares spectral properties with FITC and is highly resistant to photobleaching, making it ideal for oligo labeling, especially in quantitative PCR where it can be attached to primers. In molecular Point-of-Care Testing (POCT), FAM-labeled oligos facilitate target DNA amplification and quantitative detection. In resource-limited settings, amplified FAM-labeled DNA can be visually detected using lateral flow assays with anti-FAM antibodies. This approach, combining isothermal DNA amplification and lateral flow detection, offers an effective solution for at-home or doctor’s office testing.
