Technical Overview
Anti-Taq antibody is a monoclonal antibody raised against Taq DNA polymerase, the thermostable enzyme derived from Thermus aquaticus that underlies most PCR and qPCR workflows. The antibody binds and inhibits Taq polymerase activity at ambient and low temperatures, blocking non-specific extension and primer dimer formation before cycling begins. Once the reaction reaches denaturation temperature, the antibody irreversibly denatures, releasing full enzymatic activity of the polymerase for the remainder of the run.
This antibody mediated hot start mechanism is widely used to improve the specificity, sensitivity, and yield of PCR and qPCR assays, particularly in multiplex reactions and low template applications such as molecular diagnostics and Point of Care Testing (POCT). By eliminating the need for manual hot start steps or wax barrier methods, Taq antibody enables simpler, room temperature reaction setup while maintaining high specificity, making it well suited for assay formats used in all research labs, clinical labs or POCT.
